The "Unofficial" Chris Walsh Fan Club

Vikings 17, Raiders 22 - 9/19/99

Another nail-bitter game, but this week didn't have the desired outcome.

Walsh appeared loose before the game. Taking a page from Cris Carter's pregame ritual, Walsh played catch with the fans down in the southern endzone during warm ups.

Something that seemed new to me, Walsh lined up just left of Palmer for kick-off returns. Normally, Walsh lines up on the line, but handled blocking duties from his new location for the entire game.

Walsh is also at a new position during punt returns. Walsh actually goes into a three point stance on the line. After the intial surge, Walsh would then start blocking someone coming off the line. He also did a lot of pointing and motioning to the other guys on the line.

Walsh did miss one block I noticed and according to a report from a field correspondent (hi Tony), also got leveled during a coverage play.

As for offense, Walsh came in on a 5 reciever set, but otherwise stuck to his special teams duties.

Last night during Rosen's Sport Saturday, Walsh was Rosen's guest. I missed the first segment, but did catch Walsh talking the number of hours a day players spending in meetings and practices to prepare each week. He also said he felt Sherman called a good game against the Falcons and that they won by doing what Atlanta did last year; control the clock with the running game. Rosen called Walsh the Vikings "insurance policy" and showed some clips from last year and this year's preseason.

Walsh said "the ball's there, might as well catch it."

As they showed his touchdown catch, Walsh stopped mid-sentence and said "nice catch" and started laughing.

Walsh also discussed Jeff George and scoring in the "red zone." To wrap up the segment, Walsh joked about Rosen's orange sweater. Walsh gave a great interview, I just wish I would have caught the first segment.

Earlier in the day, Walsh was at the Mall of America signing autographs. Check out some pictures from the event.
