The "Unofficial" Chris Walsh Fan Club

Vikings 21, Buccaneers 14 - 10/3/99

While my girlfriend and I enjoyed the onslaught of Viking offense during the first quarter, it pained us deeply to know it all happened in "our" endzone, yet we were at home watching on TV. Ugh.

Watching Walsh was tough today, as he was wearing purple long sleeves, something I've never seen him do in the dome (though Cris Carter sure likes them). According to Christa, another one of our correspondents, observed Walsh seemingly sucking for air on a few occasions, almost as though he wasn't feeling well. I'm not sure if that's related to his clothing attire or not.

Regardless how he felt, Walsh was very active both on special teams and on offense.

Many Viking players seem rather feisty this year. Walsh got into a little scrum with a Buc on the opening kickoff. On the first punt return for the Vikes, Walsh made a block that seemed to be into the back of a Buc and when the flags flew, I was nervous. Fourtunately, the refs were worried about someone else. For the second kickoff, Walsh made the tackle with attitude. He also picked up another tackle in the second quarter. Late in the third on a punt by Mitch Berger, Walsh gave everything he had into a vertical leap at the goal line trying to keep the football from going over his head. Unfourtunately, he was only able to get a couple of fingers on it and it ended up a touchback.

For offense, Walsh got a few snaps today because of injuries to other players. While he didn't get a catch, Walsh did pick up the blitz in the third quarter.

I was going to give "The Superstar" Mike Morris a hard time for two high snaps (even after apologizing to him on the radio Friday for making fun of him), but on Rosen's Sports Sunday (the best of the Sunday Viking shows) Mitch Berger said he likes them a little high.

Berger also said he feels the special teams unit has been winning the field position battle each week.
