The "Unofficial" Chris Walsh Fan Club

Vikings 22, Bears 24 - 10/10/99
TOUCHDOWN COUNT: 1

Obviously, the fourth quarter touchdown was about the only highlight of the game.

Chris Walsh caught an 18 yard touchdown pass from Randle Cunningham with two seconds to go during the 24-22 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. After the catch, Walsh jumped up to show the official that he had the ball, then ran to the sideline somewhat subdued. Obviously, it was bittersweet to nab his first touchdown this season but in a losing effort.

I stood alone in celebration for Walsh's catch. It was even in my endzone.

Before the game, Walsh spent most of his warm up time talking with Sean Salisbury. They had a lengthy conversation and Walsh ran back to the locker rooms. When he emerged, he was definitely wearing different pads. They stuck out across his chest, more than likely protecting his bruised ribs.

Walsh practiced receiving a couple of punts, confirming the rumour that with Palmer out, Walsh may have some return duties. However, Walsh was never called upon.

Again, Walsh took a page from Carter's warm up routine and threw a ball up into the stands to play catch. Carter seemed to really enjoy his game of catch with the crowd, throwing the ball up into my end zone 3-4 times, usually aiming for kids.

Some drunken idiot spilled bear on my Walsh banner. I'm obviously less than pleased, but it seemed to survive the incident. I have a new banner in the works, hopefully I can retire this battered war horse.

Stay tuned for some photos and a channel 5 interview with comments from Walsh.

My Mom attended the annual "Football 101" at Winter Park Saturday. The running joke with Mitch Berger was "I'm not Chris Walsh." Apparently this joke came about after Walsh's name was mentioned and a few women let out a holler. Berger continued the joke when he said, "I'm here, Walsh will be here next year."

Berger was definitely a highlight according to my Mom. Berger explained his kicking process of putting his hand in the air to signal he's ready, put his hand down, count to three and then kick the ball off. My Mom closely observed his kickoffs and discovered he was not counting to three. When she confronted Berger with this after the game, Berger admitted, "I was too excited."

We are certainly lucky to have so many players on our team who are willing to interact with us, the fans!
